| HST is a kind of mental sport, recognised by the IARU and pursued by cw enthousiasts who like telegraphy and are ready to develop their skills in this area.It is an indoor competition but it is not via radio. There are organised championships in wich competitors can take place. HST competitions took part mainly in eastern European countries, but recently it has gone through on such positive changes which hopefully promote the growing of it's popularity all over the world.
The competition consists of three main events: The traditional transmitting and receiving of 5-character groups and the newly introduced radioamateur practising test (RPT). The RPT consists of two programs: RUFZ , wich is a 'callsign copy' program where the task is to copy callsigns and type them back to the computer. The other one is PED , the pile-up trainer which is a contest and pile-up simulator. Both programs are popular among HAM's these days.
HST is not only a competition for high skilled CW HAM's but it's programs can promote young people to become radioamateurs. The traditional tests can help in preparing for cw exams. The RUFZ is a good means to develop the youngsters cw skills. It is very exciting to them getting new scores and in the mean time they progress gradually. The PED produces a perfect contest situation, so it is a good device to practice for the real contests on the air.At the end, a popular HST can be a important means to preserve morse code for the future. |
