OM Din, PA0DIN SK
It is with sadness that we report that our VHSC friend Din, PA0DIN, secretary/treasurer of our society since 1981 passed away on 30th September 2023 at the age of 86 years. Din was born on 3rd April 1937 in Echt (province of Zuid Limburg). When he was about 14 years old he started with radio. He built a 1-V-1 and heard AM hams on 80 meters. He became member of VERON and started in 1955 as SWL In 1957 he passed the full license exam (cw 12 wpm) and obtained the call PA0DIN. From 1962 to 1967 he lived in Switzerland and soon he was active as HB9ADH. As a passionate CW operator, he enjoyed to participate in contests and he loved collecting awards. He was a member of several CW clubs (FOC, HSC, AGCW, NTC and DIG) and an honorary member of VHSC. He was not just operating on the ham bands. He was also very active for VERON. From 1975 to 2006 he was HF contest manager, traffic manager, member of VERON main board and from 1983 VERON 2nd vice president. For his activities he was appointed VERON member of merit and in 2006 honorary member. When in 1981 Leo, PA0LXL one of the founding fathers of VHSC and secretary/treasurer, stepped down Din took over and held that position until his death. At Din’s cremation ceremony at Nijmegen on 7th October 2023, the president of VERON recalled and praised Din’s long active involvement in radio amateur affairs, also mentioning his many activities for VHSC. At the cremation ceremony on 7th October, Bob PA5V, on behalf of VHSC offered condolences to Din’s family and offered flowers to place near the coffin as a thank you and farewell. Rest in peace Din, your fb CW sigs will be missed on the bands.

Best regards,

Bob PA5V, President VHSC
